DangeRuss Wilson for MVP... And I'll Tell You Why

Alright so I know most people across the nation are thinking its Peyton's Award to lose this year, but I think 2nd year QB Russell Wilson fits the mold of MVP a little better and I'm going to tell you why.

So Russell Wilson is in his 2nd year in the league and since his arrival he has tied Peyton Manning's record of throwing for 26 TD's in their rookie season, he has tied Ben Roethlisberger's record of most wins in their first 2 seasons with 22 (Wilson still has 4 games left to break that record), and he has helped give the (11-1)Seattle Seahawks the best record in the NFL and the best start in franchise history.

Wilson is everything a coach could ask for. He spends countless hours in the video room and sends texts to his WR's throughout the week about plays he thinks will work for the following game and different ideas to attack opposing teams. Not too mention he spends his free time at the local Seattle Children's Hospital where he interacts with all the kids on a weekly basis, I know it's not football related but this is just speaking on the type of individual Russell Wilson is and why he has won over the hearts of everybody in the entire state of Washington and slowly the entire nation.

Now I understand that Peyton Manning is doing incredible things this season, on pace to break Drew Brees single season passing yards (Record - 5,476, Manning currently - 4,125), He has thrown 41 TD's thus far (9 shy of the record 50 TD's set by Tom Brady back in 2007, you remember 18-1 right?) with only 9 INT's, as well as the best passer rating in the NFL at 115.3. All that is good and all, but when it comes to MVP I want that individual to really be the most valuable player in the league and Wilson is that person the to Seahawks.

Russell Wilson doesn't have the same stats as Peyton, but look at the type of offense ran on both teams. Denver is a high flying act with one of the most accurate passers of all time throwing the ball, while in Seattle it is focused on the ground and pound approach and Wilson still is able to shine like the MVP he should be. Manning is averaging the 4th most pass attempts per game with about 40 passes per game while on Wilson is only throwing the ball about 26 times per game, ranked 31st only ahead of the 49ers Colin Kaepernick(25 pass attempts per game). Wilson has played with a make-shift offensive line thru most of the season but because of his awareness he has continued to make smart, big plays to one of the most underrated receiving corps in the league (The only big name they have at WR is Percy Harvin, who has only played in 1 game all season and had only one reception in that game). Coming out of the college the one thing that seemed to be Russell Wilson's demise was his height (5'11), but not even that could hold him back because of his integrity, awareness, intelligence, and being able to make the big plays with his feet and with his arm.

Wilson was even spending much of the off-season in the video room, doing what you ask, well he was studying EVERY single throw Drew Brees has ever thrown, why? Simple, because he knew Brees height was a huge factor against him as well and he wanted to study how Brees shut up the critics and proved he is an elite QB, which Wilson has begun to prove to us all this season as well.

If Wilson is somehow able to pry the award away from Manning this season it would be only the 3rd time someone has won the MVP in their second season (Previous 2nd year MVP's - QB Dan Marino, QB Kurt Warner) and he would be the youngest (25) to win MVP since Marino won the award at the age of 23 in 1984.

The people who vote for MVP will very likely pick Peyton to win his NFL-record 5th MVP, but they should really be picking DangeRuss! Either way these two teams have a very good shot at meeting in New Jersey in February for Super Bowl XLVIII and if the voters do decide to take the easy way out and pick Manning, Russell will still get his chance at another MVP, the Super Bowl MVP.
