NFL Week 15 Mayhem 2013

Another great weekend of NFL action has passed and we are inching closer and closer to the post-season. The Playoff Picture is slowly focusing in and we are almost all set to go. There are still a few teams that won't know if they make the cut until the last game of the season, NFC North, NFC East and AFC North.

The NFC Playoffs are looking like this:

  1. (12-2)Seattle Seahawks
  2. (10-4)New Orleans Saints
  3. (8-6)Philadelphia Eagles
  4. (8-6)Chicago Bears
  5. (10-4)Carolina Panthers - WILD CARD
  6. (10-4)San Francisco 49ers - WILD CARD

The AFC Playoffs are looking like this:

  1. (11-3)Denver Broncos
  2. (10-4)New England Patriots
  3. (9-5)Cincinnati Bengals
  4. (9-5)Indianapolis Colts
  5. (11-3)Kansas City Chiefs - WILD CARD
  6. (8-6)Miami Dolphins - WILD CARD
Their are still some teams on the outside looking and still have a chance of making the playoffs. Those teams are:
  • (9-5)Arizona Cardinals, (7-7)Detroit Lions, (7-6-1)Green Bay Packers, (7-7)Dallas Cowboys are all battling for a playoff spot in the NFC.
  • (8-6)Baltimore Ravens, (7-7)San Diego Chargers, (6-8)Pittsburgh Steelers are all battling for a playoff spot in the AFC.
The Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions will be playing tonight, and as you can see they are both on the outside looking in at the moment so a win would be very big for either team, and the same can be said with a loss.

Their were a lot of battles going on this past weekend and a couple upsets as well and of course the lowly Houston Texans lost again, which is now their 12th loss in a row after starting the season 2-0.

Seattle Shutdown the New York Football Giants:

(Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports)
The Seattle Seahawks controlled every aspect of the game Sunday, holding the Giants to 0 points, their first shutout at home since 1995, and were also able to pick off 5 thrown passes by Eli Manning. The New York Giants only gained 181 TOTAL yards and were unable to get anything rolling offensively, with only 11 first downs the entire game compared to Seattle's 20. The interceptions didn't help matters any, but even when they tried to switch things up and run the ball they still failed miserably against this Seattle defense, gaining only 25 yards on the ground. Eli is now King of INT's for Big Blue(Big Blue is the New York Giants if you didn't know) with 169 interceptions, his 4th INT Sunday gave him the record over former Giant QB Charlie Conerly who had 167 when he was QB for the Giants from 1948-1961. The Seahawks offense was actually the least impressive part of the win, with the defense and special teams playing great football. The special teams have allowed only 15 return yards on punts leading up to this game and are looking to break the record held by the Vince Lombardi-led Green Bay Packers, who only allowed 22 in 1967 (Albeit it was only a 14-game season as well).
Final Score:
SEA over NYG 23-0

Miami Stops the Brady Comeback Just In Time:

C.W. Griffin / Miami Herald Staff
It doesn't happen often but when it does it always grabs the nations eye. Tom Brady was in the middle of a miraculous comeback for the New England Patriots who were trailing by 4 points. It was 4th and 5 at the Miami 14, Brady had about 2 seconds left on the clock and threw a deep pass towards WR Austin Collie in the endzone. Well there is a new guy on the Dolphins squad, S Michael Thomas, who was just signed last Tuesday off the 49ers practice squad who wasn't going to let what has happened to so many others before him happen again, and he intercepted Brady's last desperation pass to ice the game and give Miami the win. This would have been the 3rd time in just as many weeks, where the Patriots would have made a second half rally to get out with a win, and just like the saying says, "Don't push your luck" and unfortunately for Brady and Co., luck had ran out. Miami QB Ryan Tannehill played a great game throwing for over 300 yards and also throwing for 3 TD's, including two clutch TD's in the final quarter of play. The Patriots have lost 2 divisional games this season when holding a lead of at least 10 points (39-1 leading into the season) and are really looking vulnerable at this point of the season, while Miami seems to have strengthened together after the bump in the road they suffered with the Incognito/Martin debacle and now will look to keep a firm grip on their AFC Wild Card spot.
Final Score:
MIA over NE 24-20

Cowboys Do It Again!

How do they seem to be able to pull this off week in and week out, I have no clue but they do it. I overheard on the radio the other day that we should be referring to "Them 'Boys" in Dallas to the "Allas Cowboys", why is the D missing? Ask Montee Kiffin that one (He is the defensive coordinator). No but seriously, when you give up a 23-point lead (Dallas led 26-3 going into halftime) to a Matt Flynn-led team it might be time to hang up the "Cleets" so to speak. This comeback matched the largest comeback in franchise history for the Packers and was also the Cowboys QB Tony Romo 7th pick since 2006 in which he threw an INT when tied or trailing in the 4th quarter (There are 4 people tied behind Romo with 4 INT's). Romo's two interceptions couldn't have came at a worse time, throwing one to set up a TD ran in by RB Eddie Lacy to give the Packers the lead for the first time of the night, and the second came on his very next possession to ice the game. Cowboys WR Dez Bryant, who finished the day with an impressive 153 yards and one TD on 11 receptions, left for the locker room before the game was over which is already swirling around the nation as a big controversy. Green Bay does deserve some of the credit for the win as well, with RB Eddie Lacy finishing his day off with 141 yards and one TD on 21 carries. QB Matt Flynn played a great game too, against a team that doesn't even deserve the D in their name, throwing for 299 yards and 4 TD with an INT of his own.
