Seahawks Soar Over Saints

The Seahawks COMPLETELY shut down the Saints!

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports
The night started with a bang, or better yet a BOOM, when the crowd chanted "MVP, MVP" for Russell Wilson as he was coming out and again rumbled the city with the entrance of the best secondary in the league, the Legion of Boom.

Now I am sure I wasn't the only individual that thought this game was going to be a lot more close, although if you were watching the Seahawks you would have the thought the game was close the whole time with the way they were competing out there.

Seattle was without two CB's in this one but that didn't' affect the Seahawks defense thanks to back-up Byron Maxwell who played a hell of a game. LB KJ Wright, who may have played the biggest part in the Hawks defense last night, had the job of covering the best TE in the league in Jimmy Graham and did a fantastic job holding Graham to only 3 catches for 42 yards and one TD. As a matter of fact the whole defense in its entirety played a hell of a game, shutting down one of the most prolific offenses in all of football. Their defense was able to hold QB Drew Brees to under 200 yards passing and ending his 43 game streak of throwing over 200, 2 games shy of breaking the record held by Dan Fouts with 45 games in a row.

Brees finished with only 147 yards and one TD, and the entire Saints team did not break over 100 yards total offense until midway thru the 3rd quarter! These numbers are ridiculous, I mean the Saints only had one score the entire game that came in the 2nd quarter and were held in check the rest of the night! The Saints, who are the #2 team in the NFC, were out-played, out-coached, and to top that off could not get out-of-state last night after the game because their team plane had issues so they were stuck in this lovely city to bask in all of our 12th Man emotions for one more day.

There was only one turnover during the game and it sure was a big one. It happened on the Saints second possession of the game when Brees was sacked by DE Cliff Avril and fumbled the ball which was recovered by fellow DE Michael Bennet who returned it 22-yards for a TD, this was also the play that caused the 12th Man to break the record for loudest outdoor stadium...again!

Russell Wilson owned the evening, throwing for 310 yards on 22 attempts and capitalizing those stats with 3 TD passes and no INT's. Wilson was also the leading rusher for the Hawks, finishing with 47 yards on 8 carries (Marshawn Lynch had 45 yards on 16 carries). Wilson is slowly becoming nationally recognized as the best young QB in the league, something we have already noticed up here in the Pacific NorthWest and is now tied with Big Ben for the most wins in first 2 season with 22 wins, and Russell Wilson still has 4 games to go to try and beat that record. Wilson had some great plays during the game, at one point he was still trying to call out the play at the line of scrimmage and C Max Unger misheard the snap count and snapped him the ball and Wilson, who was not expecting the ball, had a blitz coming his way and made a snap decision before the heat could get to him he got the ball out of his hands and down the field about 10 yards for a first down.

Prediction:
SEA over NO 30-27
Final Score:
SEA over NO 34-7
Side Note: My personal favorite TD of the game was the TD catch by Derrick Coleman, Check it out below:

Yeah that was an awesome play and the kind of plays the Seahawks have been making all season long which is why I believe the Seahawks will be going to the Meadowlands come the first weekend of February.

All in all it was a great game to watch and will play a big role when it comes to playoff seeds in the next couple weeks. The Seahawks are now 2 games ahead of anybody in the NFC and holds a tie breaker over the Saints and Panthers (who are both the only two NFC teams close to their record). The playoffs will go thru Century Link Field and that should scare just about everybody in the NFC.
